You Think David Brent is Awkward

Having all of our stuff now with a place to put it has allowed me to mess around with my recording gear. Now, I am in no way a performer and I cringe to think of people listening to this, but this site is here to entertain as well as educate. Yes, we realize it does neither very well but we are not giving up that easily.

Performance Disclaimer
I’ve chosen this song because of the recent mainstream success The Office (original British series) has had and my friends might get a kick out of hearing my short version. I only like to do joke songs so people realize I’m not taking my hobby seriously. Having said that, I can’t seem to make a recording that sounds like I am joking around. I believe this is primarily due to the fact that I don’t know how to sing so it comes off like I am trying very hard instead of just being relaxed and having fun. So I’m telling you again clearly now that this song is not intended to be taken seriously and I was actually having a lot of fun recording it. You might have to picture me dancing around or something if that helps.

Content Disclaimer
If you haven’t seen the show or don’t remember the song, the lyrics aren’t exactly for impressionable young children. No cussing or anything, but it is story full of sexual innuendo about a guy driving down the highway. So don’t put this on a CD for Grandma or anything, Mom. In fact, I’m not so sure you and Dad should even listen since you haven’t seen the show either.

Without further ado: Freelove Freeway (610kb MP3)

I've actually got the Spaceman and Princess Diana songs going too if people can't get enough of my vocal stylings.

I know a couple of our readers have a passing interest in home recording so here is what I am using. The hardware is the very portable and versatile MBOX connected via USB to my laptop. I just have the acoustic guitar and wood drum to play with so everything goes through my AKG condenser microphone as I sit in a couch in my living room. The software is an ancient version of Pro Tools LE that suits me just fine because I don’t know how to use half the features anyway. The mix above is four tracks: guitar, vocals, wood drum, and little rattle thing.

Awesome! "She's dead"... Definitely email or post the other songs. And have a happy Whitmonday.

Dude that sounds great. I'm casting another vote for more songs. Well, songs from The Office anyway. Celine Dion covers can stay hidden.

Insane. Risking sounding like J when he was tipping your crisp pictures, that sounds awesome. Keep it coming, maybe a cover of Pea Gun or something...
