As most of you know, I had the opportunity to visit our Singapore office 2 weeks ago. Iíve never been to Asia so I was super excited to have this experience. I arrived around 7am on a Sunday morning and it was probably 80 degrees and so humid. It would only get hotter and stay that way for the entire trip.
I stayed on the 48th floor of the Swissotel.
Here are some views from my room.
Iíve been told that Singapore is probably one of the most westernized locations in Asia so this was a good introduction for me. Lots of shopping malls and fantastic food. Unfortunately I didnít have much time to shop but I walked through several giant air-conditioned malls to get to work everyday, passing no less than 5 Starbucks on the way.
The office is actually located on the 8th floor of this mall.
The first day I met up with a colleague and his wife who showed me around the city. We ended up in Little India.
My first coconut
The delicious food begins with a local beer and Black Squid in like a curry, Oyster sauce. Asian food is my favorite so I knew this was a sign of good things to come.
The next night we went to this nice restaurant across from this cute little lane.
He would soon be my dinner.
Chili Softshell Crab....DEEELICIOUS
Do you sense a theme? I could not get enough of the food. Some other local dishes I tried and loved included Laksa, Chicken Rice and Chen Dol. I was also lucky to have my colleagues get me to a good Dim Sum place and a Pho House. The Pho was not so good as I've had in the past but the Dim Sum was amazing.
There was one thing however that left a really bad taste in my mouth, and a bad smell in the office. Of course I'm talking about the Durian, which smells like some mix of Petrol and bad fruit. I had heard of these before and was willing to give it a try.
Here it is...paired with a kind of red bean frapuccino. The frapuccino was surprisingly good; the durian was not. I tried a couple of bites just to make sure.
Donuts were all the craze and people lined up for concoctions such as peanut butter and chocolate, apple and of course spicy cheese. I had to get my hands on that spicy cheese donut. And I actually really liked it.
That's all folks, the rest of the trip was mainly work and though I did have a couple of good hosts show me around, there was not nearly enough time to see everything. I would definitely go back.
