As most of you know, I had the opportunity to visit our Singapore office 2 weeks ago. I’ve never been to Asia so I was super excited to have this experience. I arrived around 7am on a Sunday morning and it was probably 80 degrees and so humid. It would only get hotter and stay that way for the entire trip.
I stayed on the 48th floor of the Swissotel.
Here are some views from my room.
I’ve been told that Singapore is probably one of the most westernized locations in Asia so this was a good introduction for me. Lots of shopping malls and fantastic food. Unfortunately I didn’t have much time to shop but I walked through several giant air-conditioned malls to get to work everyday, passing no less than 5 Starbucks on the way.
The office is actually located on the 8th floor of this mall.
The first day I met up with a colleague and his wife who showed me around the city. We ended up in Little India.

I’m here. Sorry for being gone so long. No good reason for it. We haven’t traveled too much recently though so I’d just use that to diffuse any talk of my general procrastination. Chiz did, however, fully roll the whisper of her maybe going to Singapore on business into actually being there as I type this. It’s a business trip in pretty much every sense of the term but she is staying right downtown with a walk to the office so seems like a good place to find the pulse. A couple Yanks will be showing her around but I told her that is no excuse for her coming back without having eaten something she normally wouldn’t. She’ll be back on Thursday and if you are half as excited as I am that she might regale us with her tales on this very blog then you are one third as excited I am about Ron Paul.
The main inspiration for this post though was to document my experience at the Zurich Street Parade this year. For my complete, yet very brief history, with this event check out the post from last year and see where I was coming from.

Looks like you got the great tour of Singapore. Your hosts did a good job. I agree that Singapore is a good intro to Asia. Japan is also a good intro (although English isn't the primary language). I'm glad you went to little India, since it's the only place in Singapore that's not totally sterile! Chili crab is money. Did you have any of the roti with egg? Singapore has some of the best food in the world because of the mix of Indian, Chinese, Malay and other southeast Asian cuisine. You and Bryan definitely need to go back - but don't stop there! Singapore is sort of just like an Epcot center of Asia. You need the real thing - Thailand, Malaysia, Bali, Japan...
Shelby, August 25, 2007 07:52 PM:Looks like you had a great time! Where in the world did Chizzy and Bryan go next?
Bob, September 7, 2007 04:29 AM:Look at those man hands.
Chizzy, September 9, 2007 06:33 PM:It's impossible to match Bob's Beauty regimen.
Rainier, September 10, 2007 05:27 PM:Do you really want us to think about Bobby's hands?
Nice work on the post. Sounds like a great trip.
